At the beginning of March, I received a message from the entrepreneur and metamodernist writer Tomas Bjoerkman — a link to SEEDS — The Conscious Currency. Since 2019 I have been experimenting and learning about crypto since 2019. In this article, I am explaining my reasons for joining the SEEDS community and becoming an ambassador for Seeds cryptocurrency.
1) Green-Alternative-Libertarian storytelling
Since I am working with political theory and ideas, it was very interesting for me that the SEEDS-project is based on a mixture of green/ecologist and liberal/libertarian critique of the financial systems based on quantitative easing (easy credits). The QE policies are benefiting large and wealthy private institutions like banks and companies. Such as the case was during the dollar crisis and euro crisis 2008–2016 ending up in “socialism for the rich” policies.
In Sweden, during 2018, I co-created a portal for green-alternative-liberal, and visionary politics called Grön Opinion (Green Opinion). In my view, dealing with climate change as the most existential topic for the future of our world and humanity has to be an inclusive process going beyond Left vs Right political conflicts. I am glad that there is an initiative as SEEDS because climate transformation is about developing a world where there are no developing nor industrial countries, no first-, second- nor third-world — only climate-friendly countries and a sustainable planet.
2) Decentralized, Collaborative and Reward-based economic model
Another feature that I admire very much is regarding ideas about the economy and market. One can see that the SEEDS community-building is based on going through several meters of academic literature regarding economic, financial and market-relevant topics. Here are some examples of how ideas are implemented:
- A decentralized and community-driven “central” bank and basic income
- Rewarding initiatives that are seen as beneficial for climate transformation and ecology
- Possibility to co-create social and economic projects locally and globally
- “Harvesting” Seeds to keep the economy stable and low-inflation
This is in contrast with much of the current public and private institutional behaviours. Such as where for instance the Swedish government, despite all climate-friendly policies, is also investing pension fund money in funds linked to large companies working in the sphere of coal, oil and gas.
3) Contributing to a post-industrial, post-material and post-national future
For me, an essential aspect of SEEDS is the promotion and celebration of universalist ideas such as planetary awareness and human/global civilization. It is about regarding our planet as a common polity for the whole humanity where we as individuals and communities can co-create a sustainable, freer and safer world and live in harmony with animals and nature. A world where we have more time for self-development, mindfulness and spirituality in line with the metamodern narrative/paradigm. In principle, every cryptocurrency is global, but at the moment SEEDS is the only one based on applying new meta-narratives and general climate-smart ideas.
